How does water (wet surface) help improve the bond for hardwoods?

Re: How does water help improve the Gorilla Glue Bond?

Great question!  Gorilla Glue is a moisture cured urethane (MCU), which means water is the catalyst that starts the chemical reaction that ultimately causes the Gorilla Glue bond.

Other things besides water can cause the reaction like alcohols or amines, however water is the most convenient. Not to mention there is sometimes enough moisture in the air to serve as a catalyst for the reactions.
